REMEMBERING DARIUS MORRIS: FORMER LAKERS POINT GUARD AND CARSON NATIVE, DEAD AT 33

Former Los Angeles Lakers point guard and native of Carson, Darius Morris, passed away at the age of 33.

The Lakers family is saddened to hear of the passing of former Laker, the team posted on social media Saturday afternoon, expressing their condolences.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of Darius Morris,” the message said. 

Morris, a Windward School attendee in Mar Vista, was drafted 41st overall by the Lakers in the 2011 NBA Draft, following his collegiate career at the University of Michigan.

During his tenure with the Lakers, the team reached the playoffs twice. Notably, in 2013, he stepped up in place of the injured Kobe Bryant, scoring 24 points against the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs.

Throughout his NBA journey, he also played for the Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets. His last professional stint was with the French club BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque in 2020.

Over 132 NBA games, Morris maintained averages of 3.3 points, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 rebounds.
